Indonesia clean-up day with Danish Ambassador

Casper Klynge, Ambassador of Denmark to Indonesia, and Emil Salim, Senior Development Officer, joined Maritime Coordinator Minister, Luhut Pandjaitan, in cleaning up waste in Cilincing, North Jakarta on Saturday 6 May 2017.

Marine plastic waste is a critical problem for Indonesia and the world. Plastic entering the ocean negatively affects the environment, tourism and the public health through micro plastic. The nation wide clean-up day was ceremonially launched by Minister Luhut in Cilincing on the May 6th to commemorate Earth Day.

The Danish Embassy has taken a number of steps to address marine plastic debris and hope to contribute to raising awareness about marine pollution.

The event was organized by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs together with Jakarta provincial government. In addition to the Danish Embassy, it was attended by representatives from US Embassy, South Korean Ambassador, Belgian Ambassador, North Jakarta Head of Regency, Wahyu Haryadi, and head of Jakarta Sanitation and Environment Agency, Isnawa Adji. Orange force, a special group established by Jakarta Government for cleaning up drainages, rivers, and coastal areas in Jakarta, were also present.
