The Danish shipping conglomerate wants to invest USD 3 billion on its logistics business in Indonesia but the country’s shipping laws are standing in the way of it.
An Indonesian law from 2008 states that only domestic shipping firms are allowed to transport cargo between islands in the archipelago. Another law states that only Indonesian vessels can carry national cargoes.
Maersk and her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark visited Indonesia this Thursday in hopes of bolstering the two countries ties in logistics, renewable energy, water management, transport and education.
